#CAUKis20 series: Therese Hamill on her time at CAUK from 2002-2005

Tell us a bit about yourself and what do you do now?

I am currently the Ring of Gullion AONB Officer with Newry Mourne and Down District Council. I have held this position since 2013. More about the project here.

What was your involvement with Change Agents (or StudentForce)? For example, the project or people you worked with, who you remember from that time...

I was the Community EcoCheck Scheme Co-ordinator. I worked there when David Bond, Rachel, Joanna Favill, Neil, Claire Gilis, Sara, loads of people, and I'm rubbish at remembering names! There was about 2 complete change of staff over the few years I was there. Always great craic and someone new to get to know.

What do you remember about your time as a Change Agent? Anything you are particularly proud of? Any funny stories?

Adam's summer parties were always good craic! The allotment was always a great way to get know people and the area. I will never forget my time with StudentForce, I met some great people and Stamford was such a love place to live. I remember coming over from Ireland to look for some where to live and meeting Claire Gillis in Stamford to look for a place for me to live - took about half an hour as she had found me a great place so then had the rest of the weekend to get to know the area and enjoy the world cup in the pub which was on at the time.

What have you been up to since, what has your journey been like? How CAUK (Studentforce) contributed to your career?

I have spent the last 9 years working for not-for-profits organisations in the UK and local authorities in Northern Ireland. These has allowed me to develop skills and confidence in dealing with a wide range of people and workplace problems. I have become accustomed to being a pro-active, self reliant worker due to my roles. Studentforrce give me such a range of experience in project management, working with volunteers and other organizations.

Any words of wisdom for current and future Change Agents?

Never be put off by the length of the project or the salary! The best thing that Change Agents offer you in a foot in the door and that is invaluable - you never know where the role you get with Change Agents will lead to! Go for it and make the most of it.
