AB Agri's Responsible Sourcing - Peterborough Graduate Scheme Case Study

Experience on placement by Timothy Wilson
The Brief

AB Agri, part of Associated British Foods plc, operates in the intermediary stages of the agriculture sector – between farmer and retailer. Employing over 3,000 individuals worldwide they manufacture and market ‘field to fork’ products and services in areas including specialist animal nutrition, micro–feed ingredients and complete feeds as well as food, drink & bio-fuel co-products.

As part of AB Agri’s ‘Formula 24 - recipe for responsible agriculture’ programme, the company is committed to sourcing all its key raw materials sustainably by 2024. As part of this journey the opportunity for a change agent to explore and assess the international supply chains supporting the business was created.

The Partnership

The partnership with CHANGE AGENTS has allowed AB Agri to dedicate additional resources to  help drive progress towards their responsible sourcing agenda – beginning with an analysis of the extended supply chain and identification of material pathways holding potential improvement areas.

Working with people across the business Tim has had the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the industry and has been able to use his time to help meet business sustainability targets and further his own professional development in tandem.
The Results

The output of the placement has been a body of work which is being used to guide the next stages of activity around responsible sourcing internally and promote a higher level of engagement and practice among suppliers.

Tim continues to work for AB Agri, helping to coordinate and promote the formula 24 agenda responsible sourcing agenda.
