Change Agents UK, have partnered with South Derbyshire District Council to resource the delivery of Sainsbury’s ‘Waste less, Save more’ campaign, and recruited a team of 8 Food Saver Champions.
Swadlincote beat off 188 other entries to secure a £1 million investment from Sainsbury’s under its ‘Waste less, Save more’ initiative and is now embarking on a year-long journey to test some of the most innovative ideas and technology available.
The campaign aims to reduce food waste in the area by 50% and to cut average household food bills by £350. A team of 8 Food Saver Champions have just been recruited by Change Agents UK to engage with residents about food waste, and also give advice on how to make full use of the South Derbyshire District Council’s recycling and composting services.
Miriam Webb, Recruitment and Development Manager at Change Agents UK, said: “We are excited to be a part of Sainsbury’s pioneering scheme in Swadlincote. Being a Food Saver Champion will provide excellent experience for those looking for a career in the environmental sector, especially in the waste and the recycling industry.”
