Bristol Green Capital 'European Voluntary Service' (EVS)

Project updates

The #BristolEVS Project has now come an end and all volunteers are back to their home countries now. We encourage you to watch our #BristolEVS documentary filmed and produced by our partner Chouette Films, paints a brilliant picture of the programme and highlights the excellent work the organisations and our volunteers were doing. You can now watch the film here.

Change Agents UK coordinated a programme to host 30 young volunteers from across Europe to volunteer on activities related to Bristol European Green Capital 2015 for 2 months in summer 2015.

The project contributed to the objectives of the Bristol Green Capital programme by providing enthusiastic and capable volunteers to act as Bristol Green Capital ‘change agents’ in projects across Bristol: increasing capacity and raising the profile of local projects that are making a positive impact for sustainability in the city.  This served to heighten the legacy of Bristol Green Capital by providing exciting, life-changing cultural and work experience placements to young Europeans passionate about sustainability.

What does it mean to be the European Green Capital?

The European Green Capital was set up by the European Commission to reward cities achieving high environmental standards and encourage them to commit to further environmental improvement and sustainable development.

As the 2015 European Green Capital city, Bristol will:

-   Stage an exciting programme of events for 2015 that will involve every community in Bristol.
-   Harness this opportunity to create an on-going step change in how Bristol behaves as a city – helping us achieve our 2020 targets.
-   Share what we have learnt and achieved in Bristol with other European Cities, and the world.
-   Offer Bristol as a test-bed for innovative environmental ideas, where we will develop pioneering practices which will not only benefit Bristol, but will hopefully become a model for cities in the UK and around the world.
