Carmen Venier

Sustainability Education and Engagement Officer

I started my career in science, studying chemistry and environmental toxicology at university because I was fascinated by how science could drive meaningful change. During my masters degree, I discovered a passion for sharing my research and connecting with students. It was so rewarding to help others understand and get excited about complex ideas. That passion led me to getting my teaching degree and working in secondary schools, introducing students to the wonders of science and mathematics. Now, I'm so excited to be working as a Sustainability Education Officer at CAUK which allows me to combine my skills as an educator and my passion for sustainability!
If you're interested in starting out in sustainability, my best advice is to find a like-minded community and just get started on a small project! The hardest part is that first step, but it will be worth all the effort and the fear that might come from trying something new. Even small steps in the right direction can drive meaningful change!
My free time is usually taken up by hiking, knitting, or getting in a yoga session. Learning is my ultimate passion, so you'll always find me reading something or taking a course to expand my knowledge!
